Children's Action Network presents Heart Gallery Los Angeles is a special exhibit of photographs featuring Los Angeles foster youth hoping for a loving adoptive family, designed to highlight the need to find adoptive families for waiting children. Heart Galleries feature foster children who were removed from abusive and neglectful situations, but still have hope. They love to laugh, to learn, and to be with their friends. Most of all, they dream of finding their own forever family. Our goal is to help these deserving children find families by recruiting professional photographers to create a gallery of photographs which capture the children’s true beauty and spirit.

Special thanks to our curator Angie Featherstone
and all the wonderful photographers who participated including
Siri Kaur, Brooke Nevin, Frankie Norstad, Marjorie Salvaterra,
Michael Shields, Sal Owen

The project is a partnership with the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services.

Brittany, Age 14

Brittany’s shy smile reveals that she is somewhat quiet and reserved when meeting new people, but once she is comfortable, she is very personable. She enjoys being independent of thought and mind and takes pride in making sound decisions. She has no problem saying no to peer pressure and prides herself on this quality! Brittany loves all sports ranging from jujutsu to volleyball to basketball to soccer. She really is a natural born athlete who pours her everything into whatever sport she plays. She is very well-rounded and grounded and supports health causes like breast cancer awareness by wearing pink. Brittany enjoys painting, listening to music, and going for walks in the park. She has taken up the art of knitting and she is also looking to be part of a tight-knit family. Brittany would love to have a family to create a permanent tapestry of memories as she continues to work her way through the loops and twists that are part of life.

Jasmine, Age 11, Jennifer, Age 9, Josie, Age 6, Emmanuel, Age 4

Pictures don’t lie! These four siblings really are as fun and engaging as their picture. Spending an afternoon with them at the photo shoot allowed for everyone around them to see their undeniable sibling bond. Jasmin takes her role as the older sister very seriously. She is outgoing, extremely personable, and makes friends easily. Being the big sister, she is naturally strong willed and is learning to follow instructions. Jasmin likes to play hula-hoop, jump rope, and handball. She also loves to read and has quite advanced reading skills for her age. Jennifer is active, full of energy, and very affectionate. She is inquisitive and always eager to learn. Jennifer loves to play with all kinds of toys and is particularly attached to her stuffed animals. Josie is a very friendly girl, kind to everyone around her, and has a very pleasant personality. You will be blown away by her broad vocabulary! Josie loves to paint and color, she takes pride in her artwork and loves to have it on display. She is very outgoing as she likes to tell jokes, dance, and sing. Little brother Emmanuel is so very much loved and cared for by his sisters and he thrives on getting their love and affection! He is a polite, loving, and very energetic little boy. Although he has some speech delays, he is very eager to talk. Like most boys his age, he loves cars, trucks, balls, and playing outdoors. These four siblings are deserving of a family that will provide them with a loving and nurturing environment.

Marie, Age 11

Marie’s beautiful eyes and gorgeous long hair are the first things you notice when you meet her, however, it is her inner beauty that really shines through! A little shy and reserved when meeting others, it didn’t take long to have Marie share her captivating smile. Marie is a very loving and engaging girl and genuinely liked by everyone who meets her. She is capable of forming close bonds with others and when you spend time with her you can’t help but be drawn to her sweet nature. Marie has a strong sense of style, evident in the picture! She is a typical pre-teen; Marie loves her Vans shoes, listening to music and taking a trip to the mall. Oh, and she loves playing softball and hopes to someday join a team again! Marie is clear when she says she is ready to find a family who can be there for her 100 percent. Can you be that family for Marie?
